"Evolution" – Rejected by Jesus Christ (5/24/09)
"Evolution" – Rejected by Jesus Christ -- ....Unequivocally, evolution is not a scientific fact. Far from being scientific, the theory of evolution is more of a dogmatic belief, often held by people who have little or no use for God and His influence in their personal lives. The deception of evolution, is, that it is promoted as “Scientific,” by its proponents….. (5/24/09)

Good and Bad Politics – a plain comparison (5/17/09)
I’ve concluded that the best way to catch a Michigan politician’s attention is to propose, as part of a special interest group, a law authorizing a specialty license [auto] plate. Most politicians are looking to add to their repertoire of resume career “enhancements.” Whether something is a worthy law or not, makes no difference – just so the special interests can be satisfied. However, there is the exception. And that is the general populous – and they are generally referred to, as, the “Taxpayers.” They are [unfortunately] taken for granted and only counted on for their tax monies and continued votes.
Currently there is a proposed piece of legislation that would add even more financial benefits to a Michigan politician. This “Bill,” is known as “House Bill 4229,” and was introduced by Representative Fred Durhal, a Democrat from Detroit. In short, this law, if passed, would suck more of the taxpayers’ hard earned money and pay for unneeded State Police escorts at the scene of a deceased politician’s funeral. It isn’t enough that politicians while alive, cause financial grief for the taxpayer. Now, they have found a way to stick it to the general public even after they have finally passed on!
The practice of Politics, oftentimes is very “Dirty.” But what distinguishes good politics from bad?
I always have to laugh when I hear some news or radio personality state that a certain politician is “Playing politics.” I smile and say to myself: “What else would they play?” But, unfortunately, it is the sad scenario. Politicians do not generally play [practice] good politics, but, rather, bad.
First of all – what is “Politics?” If I remember (a definition) correctly, “Politics” is something positive, not negative. Its practice is supposed to be for the common [public] good. Politics is supposed to keep, maintain and promote proper moral behavior for the advancement of the particular culture. Here is the original [Webster’s] definition:
POL'ITICS, n. "The science of government; that part of ethics which consists in the regulation and government of a nation or state, for the preservation of its safety, peace and prosperity; comprehending the defense of its existence and rights against foreign control or conquest, the augmentation of its strength and resources, and the protection of its citizens in their rights, with the preservation and improvement of their morals. Politics, as a science or an art, is a subject of vast extent and importance."
I am sure that each of you hearing or reading this message – if, you are old enough could cite some poor and pathetic examples of bad politics. As with any human endeavor there is not only the propensity and snag toward the negative, but also the definite abject failure of the practice of politics to positively affect the moral [and lasting] good for community, society and the culture.
The best way to insure good politics, is to elect good people into public office:
Even though good people may be elected and some [unelected] assume positions of governmental leadership, they are often swayed by negative, overriding and special interest influences. They also handle the taxpayer’s money. And they often handle it with disrespect and thievery. Please refer to the commentary: “Political Extortion.”
The best way for politicians to remain honest, is for them to be rooted in traditional, patriotic and godly principles. The founders and framers of our USA Constitution never felt that the belief and practice of the Christian faith was a detriment to society. Rather, on the contrary they envisioned the Christian Faith as perhaps, the most competent and wise manner to advance their new nation. Unlike today’s culture, the founders and framers of our nation understood their worldview, fashioned after, absolutes. They instinctively knew that a general public, educated with Christian values, would be the best society to govern and to provide a continuance of good governance. To them, there was no [mythical] “Separation of church and state” outlook as they correctly and logically practiced the 1st Amendment. http://wallbuilders.com/
Secondly, the best way for politicians to maintain their honesty and work for the best general public's welfare, is that they be held accountable for their every vote. Politicians who practice back scratching and bribing one another for pet proposed laws, need not continue in their capacity. Voters need to continually remind their political representatives what they view as supremely important and how they expect their particular representatives to vote. All this presupposes that they [the populous] keep themselves informed by way of organizations like the "Mackinac Center” -- http://mackinac.org
Christ’s Words: The Gospel of Luke 16:1-15
….And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” [Luke 16:15]
According to Christ’s own words [Luke 16:15] there is a priority standard which is godly and morally acceptable. And, then there is the sorry alternative, which finds its sinful expression in the fallen nature [Genesis 3]. Without the continual mirror of Creator God’s guidance and Words, politicians are sure to fall short and fail every single time, upholding their worthy profession. It is the shameful practice of their profession which makes for poor politics and the “Playing” of those politics. Selfishness and greed spoil what could often be fair and equitable for the masses of USA residents which they are supposed to represent. The more politicians propose laws contradicting the absolutes of Holy Scripture, the greater the resulting implications and problems our culture encounters. The simple directives of Scripture’s lessons in economics, if, opposed, naturally spell financial disaster. Such is the case with our USA today.
I wish that I could paint a rosy picture. I wish that I could currently reflect my country’s political leaders with words of praise, but I cannot. Our beloved country is at a new all time low for having elected a man as president who has supported infanticide and does not cherish the embodiment of “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Note: President Barack Obama's Record of the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act -Documents Relating to the Illinois State Senate Born-Alive Infants Protection Act
I live in a town of approximately 35,000 people and our town’s mayor has made it a political priority to attempt to coax the bad role model, Madonna, to accept the “Key” to the city, in which she was born. Somehow he must think that this town would ultimately benefit. My suspicions are that he would like to use Madonna's noteriety to help spur some economic tourist growth. He doesn't apparently understand [or care] how he has now become a bad role model when he in contradiction gives youth awards for genuine exemplary behavior and then as Mayor invites a poor role model to be the town's highlight. He should know better but he is apparently doing what he thinks is “esteemed among men.” However, Christ’s Words are eternal. Christ said that “…..what is highly esteemed among men [the public] is an abomination in the sight of God.” [Luke 16:15]
If you do not believe in absolutes:
Friend, if you do not believe in absolutes, I pity you. If you do not trust in your Creator Christ [Colossians 1:16] for your existence and future resting place, I further pity you. The Scriptures state that in your sinful state you cannot of your own [doing] come to recognize and confess your Creator. [Matthew 13:17] That means that you and your sinful state will never find eternal rest -- apart from the Mercy of the Triune God. It means that you must all alone, “pay the piper” for your sins against a holy and just God who must, because of His holiness, damn you and your sins in a place created, called, “Hell.” [Matthew 25:31-46]
But there is hope that no earthly politician can offer you. There is the promise of Almighty God that He is a loving and forgiving God – ready and willing to pardon you – if, you would but acknowledge your sins and put your faith and trust in Him. [Luke 18:9-14 ; Luke 23: 39-43] May you leave your politically correct mentality, behind, and may God’s Holy Spirit call you by His Gospel to receive the truth in Christ. [John 1:1-13 ; Matthew 7:13-29 ; John 18:37 ; John 3:14-21 ; and verse, 36] Amen.

An Understanding of the USA Culture – A Christian Perspective (5/10/09)
There has been a recent push by certain political homosexual activists and USA politicians to force upon the American public a so-called “Hate crimes” law. Apparently it is not enough to prosecute and imprison criminals for traditional reasons of heinous sins against one’s fellowman, such as murder and rape. Now, homosexual activists and their kowtow politicians want to take [anti-First Amendment] extreme steps of charging people with [intended] hatred, if they should be found disagreeing with the homosexual agenda and lifestyle.
Mind you – there is plenty of legislation on the law books to adequately assure that those who commit crime are adequately charged, indicted, found guilty, sentenced and imprisoned. But certain homosexual activists have somehow persuaded politicians to enact legislation that would target patriotic free speaking Americans who believe in traditional culture and mores and to make it possible to charge them with a hate [“thought”] crime:
“'Pedophile Protection Act' stirs 200K letters to Senate -- Congressman: 'Hate crimes' would 'break' Constitution”
How did our nation come to the point of holding patriotic citizens suspect for their particular religious beliefs?
Sadly and pathetically our country has drifted from the patriotic freedoms that encompassed its beginnings. The Christian Faith was not viewed on, as an impediment to society but rather a boon. The founding and framing fathers never understood the practice of Christianity as a negative force but as a very positive and compelling force that was a type of moral insurance policy which helped promulgate the very freedoms of “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” http://wallbuilders.com/
Throughout the years, the definition of “Tolerance,” has come to be something totally different than it has been traditionally understood.
Presently (and, pathetically) “Tolerance” towards one’s fellowman has been perverted to mean that one cannot in good conscience as a good citizen regard his or her personal beliefs and value system to be any better than anyone else’s. And, if anybody does value his or her value system as “Superior,” than that person is, not “Politically Correct.” They are to be categorized as biased and bigoted and branded as a “Hatemongers.” In order to be “Politically Correct,” one must regard his neighbor’s beliefs and values as equal to his. And, it doesn’t matter if that neighbor is the neighborhood’s most problematic neighbor – drunken and noise (nuisance) disorderly.
Even our nation’s judicial system has bought into the “Political Correctness” of the culture -- and seeks out other countries' law practices as legal measuring sticks to our own USA laws. This type of practice is “Multicultural” in nature, as it is now a grievous “sin” to elevate our own USA legal traditions above that of developing 3rd world countries.
Reasons [immoral excuses] for the elevation of the dogma of “Political Correctness:”
There is one political party that has largely bought into the dogma belief and practice of “Political Correctness.” It is the Democrat Party. It boasts that it is an umbrella type political party that is huge and broad enough to include everyone – no matter what belief or personal practice. And, because it strictly believes in its self imposed doctrine of Political Correctness, it will not discipline its own members for their various immoral practices. But true to [traditionally intolerant form] this particular political party will call for the opposition party to ostracize and remove its member politicians when they have morally erred.
Part of the Political Correctness dogma is that no one should have offense directed their way. No one should be made to feel “out of the loop;” inferior or disliked. Why? Because every USA citizen is to be treated with tolerance and respect – at least, so goes the liberal line. There are exceptions though. Pre-born babies and Christians don’t count nor do they qualify for Political Correctness tolerance. The pre-born aren’t human and Christians believe in absolutes. They are not to be afforded the tolerance time of day, so trumpeted by the Political Correct crowds.
One of the egregious perversions of Political Correctness is the molestation of the English language. Here is a “For instance:”
“…….An example of “Stereotyping,” is what homosexual activists do to committed Christians who disagree with their lifestyle and their push to over-turn history’s definition of “Marriage.” These homosexual activists are quick and ready to “label” certain Christians as being “Homophobes.” However, we must remember that this word, in itself, is wrongly utilized, as it actually means from its etymology: “Fear of man,” -- not “Fear of homosexuals.” But I think you gather the idea here. Stereotyping can be a maniacal and malevolent political tool, used by activists of any cause, to hijack the English language and turn it into propaganda fodder…… [The Divine perspective – The Righteous and the Ungodly (5/3/09)]
Pontius Pilate’s attempted practice of Political Correctness was Creator God’s means to effect genuine and eternal “Correctness:”
Almighty God’s Creative “Correctness:”
The Hebrew Scriptures prophesied [hundreds of years before “it” happened] that the Christ of human history would be sacrificed for human sin [Isaiah 53] Christ’s words [especially portrayed in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ”] – that He would make “all things new,” is God’s creative work upon the human scene. That work [in effect] makes all the world’s and all the politician’s Political Correctness absurd and of no consequence.
For those of you who have accepted hook, line and sinker the false dogma of Political Correctness -- be aware that:
Christ’s special birth; sinless life; suffering; death and resurrection are historical reality. It is an absolute and renders the human dogmas of Political Correctness and Multiculturalism to be null and void. All of your belief and practice of Political Correctness won’t save or deliver your soul from God’s just pronouncement and judgment because of your life’s sins against His holy commandments. [Jeremiah 17:10 ; Romans 2:5-9 ; 2 Corinthians 5:10 ; Galatians 6:7-8]
What will you do with the Christ who not only created you [Colossians 1:16] but the Christ who died for you [John 3:14-21] And, what will you do when you must stand before Him and give an account? [Matthew 25: 31-46] By the grace of God, you will come to your spiritual senses and finally realize His absolute truth. [John 18:37] Amen.

The Divine perspective – The Righteous and the Ungodly (5/3/09)
NOTE: The following message and the related Scriptures below, can be utilized along with: A Suggested Format for Home WorshipOne of the most misunderstood Scriptures is Christ’s words about “Judging.” [Matthew 7:1] If there is one Scripture which unbelievers will know – it is this one. Both non-Christians and Christians, alike, are often of the opinion that a person should not be outspoken and critical of others. When confronted with their sinful lifestyles, non-Christians [and Christians] will utter their misinterpretation of Christ’s words as a rationalizing defense mechanism. Their mistake is that they fail to understand the very first verse of Matthew 7 in light of the entire chapter.
Christ was teaching about hypocritically “judging” others. For instance, a person should not criticize his neighbor’s dog for nuisance barking when he himself is not careful to control his own dog from disturbing the neighborhood’s peace and quiet.
When looking at any Scripture, it is important to allow Scripture to interpret itself and to understand particular Scriptures within their framed context. Christ cautioned about (hypocritical) judging, and then also warned his disciples that they could recognize false prophets by their “fruits.” [Matthew 7:13-20] In essence, Christ called upon His disciples to be “fruit inspectors,” – to judge others by their very words and lifestyles.
When Cal Thomas, a syndicated Christian columnist wrote a commentary of Barack Obama, calling him a non-Christian, Mr. Thomas was not judging in the negative hypocritical sense. Cal Thomas supported his [seeming] “judgmental” assertions with the USA president’s own words; in light of Scripture's own words.
.......Obama can call himself anything he likes, but there is a clear requirement for one to qualify as a Christian and Obama doesn’t meet that requirement. One cannot deny central tenets of the Christian faith, including the deity and uniqueness of Christ as the sole mediator between God and Man and be a Christian. Such people do have a label applied to them in Scripture. They are called a “false prophet.” ... ["Barack Obama Is Not a Christian" -- by Cal Thomas]
The Politically Correct Culture of today frowns on calling out [criticizing] certain [peoples'] belief and lifestyle distinctions:
Political correctness would bring reproach upon any individual like Cal Thomas for being so outspoken. After all, Mr. Obama is now the USA president and he is, [according to the Politically Correct crowd] to be held in such high esteem that he should not be subject to such a critical analysis. However, my Bible says that Mr. Obama like everyone else will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. [2 Corinthians 5:10]
The Divine perspective:
Hear or read the first 10 Chapters of Psalms and if you listen closely enough you will hear the distinct words: "righteous, ungodly, wicked, blood thirsty, deceitful, godly, workers of iniquity, wickedness and heathen." In God’s eyes there is no political correctness to be had. You are either righteous, or, you are wicked. You are either godly or ungodly. There are no grays with God. You are either one of His sheep or one of the goats. [Matthew 25:31-46]
Christ’s Parable of the man who had no wedding garment:
To be sure, Christians are not perfect by any means. Those who believe in Christ and make it their soul’s desire to please him by lip confession and life’s profession [Matthew 7:13-29] remain sinners while they traverse this earth. But the difference between a genuine believer and a non believer is the soul’s “covering.” Christ’s Parable of the Wedding Feast and the man who had no wedding garment, underscores this eternal and priceless distinction. [Matthew 22:1-14]
Friend, if you aren’t clothed with the righteous, sin [blood] covering forgiving garments [clothes] of Christ, you will be faced at the end of your life, attempting to “go it alone.” To be sure, you will be entering eternity on your own – and, to do that will be, what the Scriptures describe, eternal damnation. [Mark 16:16 ; 2 Thessalonians 2:12 ; Matthew 24:11-13] Your life with all of your sins against God’s Ten Commandments – both against God and your fellowman, will follow you, uncovered, [by Christ's all encompassing forgiveness] and will haunt you forever and ever. There will be no rest for your "living" soul but only utter loneliness and suffering, because you will have rejected your Creator Savior. [John 3:14-21 ; Luke 16:19-31]
It is never too late, baring the cessation of human breath, to seek the Lord and His Righteousness. [Philippians 3:9] Better to be forgiven and to enter death’s door with the righteous [forgiveness] clothing of Christ, than to enter eternity, naked, marked and tarnished, with ones’ own [damning] sins. Amen.

Pain – The Unwelcome, Uninvited, but Indispensable Guest of Prayer (4/26/08)
A “Stereotype” is often an image label given by someone who is often prejudiced and bigoted. To “Stereotype” is to err against sound logic. “Stereotyping” borders upon generalizing – pigeonholing various ideas and / or actions of people.
An example of “Stereotyping,” is what homosexual activists do to committed Christians who disagree with their lifestyle and their push to over-turn history’s definition of “Marriage.” These homosexual activists are quick and ready to “label” certain Christians as being “Homophobes.” However, we must remember that this word, in itself, is wrongly utilized, as it actually means from its etymology: “Fear of man,” -- not “Fear of homosexuals.” But I think you gather the idea here. Stereotyping can be a maniacal and malevolent political tool, used by activists of any cause, to hijack the English language and turn it into propaganda fodder.
A Stereotype of “Prayer:”
Prayer is often represented as a spiritual means of acquiring something often asked for, of God Almighty. And, when a prayer is often answered, the action and repetition of “Prayer” is often, in, and of itself, given the credit for the [humanly perceived] “successful” answer. Hence, “Prayer,” becomes the primary focus, rather than the One who hears and / or answers prayer – that being the Triune God.
Prayer is often stereotyped in glowing terms. Often prayer is highlighted as the vehicle to which someone is finally rewarded and / or delivered from extenuating circumstances – ranging from ill health to financial straits.
“Pain” to the skeptic and unbeliever:
Having lived close to 60 years, I have come to increasingly realize that human suffering – especially physical bodily pain, plays a crucial role in not only the praying process – but also, the outcome of prayer (petitions) to the Good Lord. Pain, in a non-believer can precipitate a longing for God. Conversely, pain for a non Christian believer can precipitate more unbelief and revulsion, as it did in the case with Job’s wife who urged him to “curse God and die.” [Job 2:9]
“Pain” to the Christian believer helps precipitate earnest and, continued prayer:
I cherish the very brief time I was privileged to spend with a very pleasant, sick and dying middle aged man. His body was riddled with terminal disease and his physical pain became increasingly [almost, humanly] unbearable. Within the first few minutes of meeting this dear soul, he began to pray – and, I joined in. Usually, as pastor, I am the one expected to initiate the request for prayer. But this dear soul instinctively understood his imminent, precarious, and worsening situation and he was not about to be denied any priceless time he had left to seek the Lord’s help.
In addition to the Lord’s Prayer, my dear friend [as he quickly came to be] began praying the very simple prayer: “Lord, have mercy.” Each time I visited him – and it was rather frequent, he would always and consistently pray: “Lord, have mercy!” I assured him that, that one prayer was the best prayer and thanked him for reminding me of that very reality. [Luke 18:9-14] And, with escalating physical pain, he would often pray aloud in my presence: “Lord, have mercy.”
A few hours before he died, unable to “vocally” pray himself, I prayed with him the Lord’s prayer, reminded him of the Lord’s promises that we had talked about – and then I prayed with him his favorite and superb, prayer, “Lord have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy.”
When I finally breathe my last, and come, by God’s grace (as my friend) into heaven’s glories, I want to seek out my faithful departed friend and listen to him relate to me all of the Lord’s mercies. Amen.

Rejecting the Resurrection Reality (4/19/09)
Easter morning I posted on the local online forum 3 words – “He is risen!” My father taught me this declaration every Easter morning. He would declare: “He [Christ] is risen!” And then he would expect the following reply: “He is risen, indeed!” Such was the declaration and response of the early Christians every year commemorating the death and resurrection of the Christ of history.
One forum personality responded, like the early Christian response. However, there was another response that stated “Where?” Following was a declaration of unbelief, basically saying: “I don’t see anything.” [Paraphrase] I then posted the following reply:
…….Those like you will not recognize the historic reality of Christ’s physical resurrection from the dead. The age old fallacious assertion that one has to be “on the scene” to verify and then believe what has actually happened is common with stark unbelief in both the life and teachings of the historic Christ. People of unbelief will not doubt the ancient existence and impact of a Plato or Aristotle and their writings, but they will find great fault with the historic Christ and the Old Testament [prophetic] witness and New Testament witness of his life, death and resurrection. Frankly, your argument that you have not seen is just another “Doubting Thomas,” weak-kneed argument. It holds no water.
Incidentally, I find it amazing, that people like you who like to think of yourselves as either atheistic or agnostic, will readily swallow, hook, line and sinker Darwinian Evolution. You will accept without question that such an such evolved 200 million years ago. That type of acquiescence while accusing the historical documents of the Hebrews and Christians, as mythical, is pure intellectual and moral dishonesty on your part.
Friend, if you were really serious and not attempting to either hide and / or, rationalize a sinful life, I would readily point you to some refreshing “Christian Apologetic” sources which may, help you to come to accept the reality and veracity of the Christian Faith......Oh, by the way – I wasn’t around at the time of George Washington – but, by faith, I accept the documents that he did, indeed, exist, and that he was the “Father of our Country.”
What causes such unbelief that a person will reject the risen Christ?
The denial of the supernatural:
Isn’t it amazing that the same people who deny that a pre-born baby in his mother’s womb is not human? They not only deny the Divine reality [Psalm 139:13-16] but also the medical and scientific. And, those same people will go ballistic over the discovery of a single molecule found on a distant planet! They will conclude that there is life on that planet.
The same type of schizophrenia exists in their minds when they will deny God Almighty, His creative activity of heaven and earth. These same people will fawn over the idea that all that we see, feel, hear and are aware, of, initiated by way of a single cosmic “Big Bang.”
The denial of the testimony of history:
The soul that would deny the historic Christ His due, is the same type of person who accepts hook, line and sinker, pseudo science biology texts that claim that life originated from the primeval slime, millions upon millions of years ago. Those same [inconsistent] souls will accept ancient history and recognize such characters as Plato and Socrates – but will ever be so critical of the New Testament historical documents which chronicle the life and events of Christ’s life.
The human herding instinct of “Political Correctness:
Despite the scientific [and otherwise] advancements of world culture, of which many Christians have been a part -- the unbelieving soul will bow to the prevailing culture’s “Political Correctness” views. There is the prevailing eagerness to be agreeable to the latest cultural beliefs and trends, rather than relying on the traditional and moral code of Judeo / Christian ethical principles, which have [when practiced consistently] always benefited society.
Human pride:
Perhaps more than any other factor, human pride will stand in the way of accepting the Risen Christ. The Scripture speaks of a willful unthankful arrogant and independent spirit which alienates a soul from his Creator. [Romans 1:18-32] Perhaps the greatest gift [besides Christ and the Scriptures] is the God blest gift of free will. Humans, however, without fail, utilize their free wills and run from their Creator. [Genesis 6:5 ; Psalm 14:1-4]
Friend, if you feel that you have good reason to doubt Christ’s historical resurrection from the dead – please put a halt to your human reason. As Christ told the Apostle Peter: “…..for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” [Matthew 16:17]
This pastor has never believed that a simple 4 or 5 part prayer can save your soul. Formula prayers and Gospel [“Come forward”] invitations have never been a substitute for the Holy Spirit of God’s work in the “Conversion process.” In last week’s topical message I mentioned several Scriptures which illustrate that God Himself initiates the process of belief and coming into the Christian Faith. [John 1:13 ; John 6:65 ; Ephesians 2:4-5 ; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 ; Titus 3:3-7 ; 1 Peter 1:3 ; Philippians 2:13]
I implore you to lay aside human reason, your own pride and the culture’s political correctness and seek out this Creator God who can deliver your soul from God’s just judgment and punishment. [Luke 16:19-31 ; Matthew 25: 31-46] Start reading the New Testament Gospels. Read them over and over. And, while you read them, realize that the God impartation of faith to save your priceless soul, comes from God’s [holy] Word. [John 1:13 ; Acts 8:26-40] Amen.

Life from Death -- The Resurrection Reality (4/12/09)
I heard a concise summary of the difference between the Christian Faith and that of man-made religions. It goes like this:
“Born once; die twice; born, twice; die, once.”
This quote is referring to Christ’s conversation to the religious leader, Nicodemus [Gospel of John 3:3] The Christian conversion experience is often referred to, in large segments of Christian groups as a “born again” experience. But the correct New Testament Greek rendering of Jesus’ words, is rather, “born from above.” [John 3:3] This coincides and agrees with other Scriptures that it is God Almighty who initiates the conversion experience. [John 1:13]
[Please note, towards the end of this message 6 other Scriptures [below] that attest to the reality of God's grace initiating the process of believing]
But be that as it may, for purposes of this message – I will utilize a less than perfect [but more “popular”] description of a person “coming into the Christian Faith” – “Born again.” This less than accurate phrase, [better] suites the above [total] description: “Born once; die twice; born, twice; die, once.”
Everyone is physically born. This is 1 time. But the person who does not know the Triune God and Christ as his Savior, not only physically dies once, but then in the “hereafter,” [eternity] dies one more time. This is what is known as “Eternal death,” as opposed to “Life everlasting.” [Apostle’s Creed] The Christian disciple who dies in the Faith, only experiences physical death – and then is transported to “Life, everlasting.” [Luke 23:39-43 ; Luke 16:19-31]
Whom do you trust?
Few realities of human history stand the test of time than does the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Atheists, agnostics, evolutionists and skeptics all will deny the God nature of Jesus Christ. But few will deny the existence of Jesus Christ, as the Christ of the Scriptures, which are undeniably historical documents, which are, a fixed part of human history.
Much of what a person believes, when it comes to important things, boils down to, “Whom do you trust?” Do you believe in past human leaders – like Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, or Mao? Why would you believe in these human leaders who shaped the world in so many significant ways? Why would you revere or put your trust in them, knowing that they were but men who had made mistakes and whom, at their hands, there resulted the untimely deaths of millions upon millions of human beings? Why would you ever put your confidence and trust and revere these men as gods when their lifeless bodies have long since been corrupted to dust.
Or, you can believe and put your trust in the Christ of the Scriptures who was prophesied hundreds of years before his birth to live a holy life, suffer and die and rise from the dead. Common sense would dictate that you would follow the Christ of the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures to be your model with which to fashion your life and future. Why would you choose a dead, past and imperfect leader to model your life, after? Why not look to the risen, living Christ of the Scriptures whose grave is empty?
The observation of Easter by Christ’s disciples, celebrates Christ’s triumph over death:
Perhaps, no other Scripture than 1 Corinthians 15 illustrates the reality of life from death, than Christ’s own words about His own death, crucifixion and resurrection. [John 12:24] Christ related to his disciples that His death would result in the reality of [eternal] life. This is the same type of eternal life spoken in Romans 5:12. Physical death came about because of human sin and spread to every generation since. And, because of mankind’s “Fall” into sin [Genesis 3] -- sin is the deadly “instrument” which causes physical death and spiritual death – unless sin is defeated by having received divine forgiveness, offered to, by God, Himself. [John 3:14-21]
It was God’s plan to sacrifice His only begotten Son to make it possible for sinful humans to re-connect with their Creator. Sin separates from a holy and just God and from His holy heaven. Without the shed blood (supreme) sacrifice of Christ, on behalf of the sinner, there would be no possibility of a “life” everlasting, but only a “death” forever. [Luke 16:19-31 ; Matthew 25: 31-46]
Friend, if you have always wondered [and don't understand] why Christ’s disciples go "all out" to celebrate Easter – make sure to read 1 Corinthians 15. Faith, for the Christian is not a blind element. It is a living reality, sparked by God Himself. [John 1:13 ; John 6:65 ; Ephesians 2:4-5 ; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 ; Titus 3:3-7 ; 1 Peter 1:3 ; Philippians 2:13]
May you come to know the Easter reality, the life from death, which only Christ can offer. [John 10] And may you have a genuine forever future in the “life” everlasting. May you, by God’s grace be “born twice,” and only have to die, “once.”
The early Christians made it a practice on the celebration of Easter to greet one another Easter morning by saying: "'He' is risen!" To which the response was: "'He' is risen, indeed!"
Amen.

Punishment is part and parcel of judgment (4/5/09)
Note: Definition of “Judgment:” “In law, the sentence of doom pronounced in any cause, civil or criminal, by the judge or court by which it is tried.” [Webster]
As a rule of thumb when I see a news report of a horrible murderous “incident” I will formulate a lead-in title [for the moralmatters.org website] something like this [below] – and then the actual news report title:
Evidence of a literal hell. Reservations are always being booked – “Khmer Rouge horrors detailed at opening trial” (3/31/09)
A person cannot expect that his or her sinful actions will go unnoticed and without punishment. Divine judgment pronounced upon human sin, intrinsically presupposes, punishment. As a Christian and Christian pastor I am convinced because of Scripture’s testimony and Christ’s quoted words, that there is, indeed an actual place, called “Hell.” This place of eternal abode is not a pleasant place, but a place of punishment and torment – “something” to be avoided at all costs. [Luke 16:19-31 ; Matthew 10:28] The Hebrew and Christian Scriptures have referred to hell as a future [literal] place of punishment [torment] for those who are estranged from their Creator. [Matthew 10:28]
It would be inconceivable that wrong doing [sin] should go unnoticed and without punishment:
Sin against God, His Commandments and one’s fellowman, have always brought not only the stigma of a negative consequence but a future judgment to balance the scales. Those whose present lifestyle actions are pitted against the good and gracious will of Creator God, stand, most to lose. A holy and just God, cannot go against his own perfected nature and allow imperfection on the part of humanity to flourish and go rewarded. Especially, a holy God cannot allow imperfection to exist in His holy heaven. Sin against God, His Commandments and one’s fellowman, incurs God’s just punishment preceded by His judgment. [Matthew 25: 31-46]
The present and eternal significance of Christ’s sacrifice for human sin:
The Scriptures teach that Christ Jesus came into our world “to save sinners.” In order to “save sinners” from the eternal judgment and punishment from those sins, Christ died [according to God’s prophesied plan] on a Roman cross. [Psalm 22 ; Isaiah 53 ; Matthew 27] In fact, the full judgment punishment of Creator God was poured out upon Christ to satisfy the punishment that had and must be paid for sinning against God, His Commandments and one’s fellowman. [Psalm 22 ; Isaiah 53 ; Matthew 27] Christ, the Son of God was literally forsaken by His father, God Almighty, as part of the perfect sacrifice for human sin. [Psalm 22: Isaiah 53 ; Matthew 27] This is an aspect of hell that is often overlooked. A large part of hell’s forever torment will be that it is a God forsaken place of loneliness and regret. [Luke 16:10-31] Life without God’s perfect presence is an existence that is difficult to imagine. If [and He does] Christ holds all things together by his Almighty presence [Colossians 1:16-17] , then life without God’s influence portends all that is incomplete, evil and imperfect.
Easter Sunday is just around the corner:
The annual celebration of Easter is again upon the world. To those followers of Christ, Easter is a no-brainer. It is the Christian holiday that celebrates the difference between our God and gods that are falsely worshiped. Our God lives. Those who worship other gods do not worship the Living Lord. They do not worship Divine reality. Their worship is a false worship and consequently, their worship is a dead worship.
Friend, if you do not understand or have a clue to what you have just heard or read, I encourage you to immerse yourself in the reading and studying of the 4 Gospels of the Christian New Testament. Discover for yourself the Christ of history. Discover why God became a man. Discover His holy life, suffering, death and Resurrection triumph. As you are blest and graced by God’s Holy Spirit, you will be able to understand the significance and seriousness of Christ carrying the full judgment of God upon your sin to deliver you from future eternal punishment. This action of Christ, is God’s gift to you. But a gift is useless unless received. May you by God’s grace come to know; to appreciate and finally to (inwardly / spiritually) accept the forgiveness of sins that Christ purchased on Good Friday, for your very own soul. Amen.

The Culture of Death [sadly and pathetically] is alive and “well” today (3/29/09)
I remember when I was the volunteer Chairman of the Board for the Niles MI Pregnancy Care Center. The one counselor was detained for a few minutes. In walks a young pregnant soon to be mother. We engaged in conversation. This girl was in turmoil thinking of securing an abortion. She wanted a quick fix to her “predicament.” When she referred to her pregnancy she talked about “the” “fetus” inside her. It was obvious she was brainwashed by the pro-death [so-called, “pro-choice”] culture.
When I asked the simple question: “Have you considered adoption?” Her quick reply was: “Oh no! I could never give 'my' 'baby' up!” What a transformation for this young would be mother! That [“the”] “fetus,” instantly became (to this pregnant woman] a [“my”] “baby.”
Hence, the intellectually immoral bankruptcy of the pro-death [“pro-choice”] position and crowd! When faced with life for her child this would be mother who was considering the opposite, all of a sudden and schizophrenically did an about face. She would be selfish enough to kill her baby rather than experience someone else having her child. In her clouded mixed up mind, the baby wasn’t her responsibility – while it lived within her. But if her child were to reach the light of day and be given to someone else, this child, was worthy of death. I call this type of pro-death [pro-choice] mentality, “Demonic.” And, I am reminded of the Scripture:
“But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those who hate me love death.” [Proverbs 8:36]
The Culture of Death has always existed:
Note: Definitions of “Culture:”
“The application of labor or other means to improve good qualities in, or growth; as the culture of the mind; the culture of virtue” [Webster]:
"Culture is the way of life of a people, or nation" [Consevapedia.com]:
“Culture Wars:” "Conflicts over moral or religious values and have been part of European and American history for over a thousand years" [Conservapedia.com]
The culture of death has existed since sin entered the world [Genesis 3 ; Romans 5:12] By its very [intrinsic nature] the culture of death chooses death over life. It chooses to rid the earth of innocence. [Acts 3:14-15] It chooses to ignore the Creator and worship the creation. [Romans 1:18-32] That which is contrary to a Holy Creator God and His Commandments and perfection belong to the culture of death.
Death was never meant to be part of life:
The Scriptures explain the transition from perfection to imperfection; from holiness to ungodliness; from a rightful place and position before Holy God to an inferior contaminated position before His holy presence and Divine expectations. [Genesis 3 ; Romans 5:10-24]
The Culture of Death’s temporary triumph:
No greater example can be given for the Culture of Death’s triumph than what it did to Jesus Christ. Shortly the Christian world will be celebrating Good Friday. It was on that day 2 millennia ago that the sinless person of the Lord Christ was crucified. To most of the people at the site of this common Roman punishment, Christ’s crucifixion was just another common ultimate and just penalty carried out against the worst of criminals. However, it was Creator God's plan and manner to provide a remedy for human sin in the sacrifice of Christ who was [is] the spotless "Lamb of God." [John 1:29]
The Culture of Death was defeated at the Roman Cross:
Christ was not, and is not a god, who is the figment of a person’s imagination or liking. Christ was a genuine flesh and blood person whose birth upon the human scene was prophesied hundreds of years before His birth. His whole life was prophesied in the Holy Scriptures. [Isaiah 53] His holy life was a special life, of teaching, suffering, death and resurrection from the dead. [1 Corinthians 15] It was a life, whose purpose was to break the Culture of Death forever, and to make it possible for sinners to be forgiven of their sins and to be granted a right standing before a holy and just God, who must punish sin to its fullest.
Friend, if you can’t comprehend what I’ve been saying, I can somewhat, understand your quandary. You, of your own, cannot make yourself a believer in these priceless spiritual truths. [1 Corinthians 2:14] Human reason or effort will not bring you and your sins to an end of yourself. Your human faculties do not have the power or strength to make you a believer in Jesus Christ and all that He has to offer you. Your own struggle cannot save you from God’s just wrath and punishment upon your human soul. Unless the grace and mercy of the Triune God attends your being, [Ephesians 2] you will be separated from Him now and in the forever future. [Luke 16:19-31]
Then, what is your hope? What is your lot? What is your future? That hope, lot, and future can only be found in the Lord Christ, who gave his perfect life up in sacrifice for you and all your sins. As you read and hear about this Christ, by God’s grace, your heart will be moved to believe and accept that Divine sacrifice on your behalf. [John 1:12-13 ; 3 :14-21] Don’t wait for another day when you feel it is convenient to seek after true wisdom. [Proverbs 1 ; Proverbs 8 ; Colossians 2:3] Rather seek the Lord where He may be found. [Isaiah 55] May you become a member of the culture of life and not remain with the culture of death.
